  14. The Hobo Railroad and its affiliates in New Hampshire
  15. have a small fleet of RDC cars (about 12 if I remember
  16. correctly) from Boston (MTBA?).  According to a fellow
  17. I spoke with this summer when I visited the line, the
  18. MTBA tried to sell them for scrap, but the junkman 
  19. demanded $20,000 each to haul them away because of the
  20. asbestos lagging around the engines.  Apparently much
  21. of the fleet is still "stored" near Boston awaiting a
  22. sale.  Prices unknown, but you might write MTBA.

  24. Hobo RR's cars are all used as trailers.  Although the
  25. engines in most still run well, they were run by the 
  26. MTBA as trailers and didn't have proper lubrication in
  27. their transmissions.  Now all but one have stripped
  28. gears and other damage that makes repair improbable.
  29. Further, the Hobo RR fellow said they cannot get parts
  30. to fix them (and you can bet that they got the best
  31. cars left).  [Maybe the Canadian National has parts;
  32. I have heard that they have just retired all their cars].
