  33. Well, the reason that motorcycle, crash, and flight helmets are made
  34. of polycarbonate/plastic/fiberglass is so that in an accident the 
  35. helmet will deform and perhaps split, thereby absorbing a portion
  36. of the energy of the collison instead of transmitting it to your head.
