- Hello All!
-
- Well, the projected rebuild costs on my '90 ZX-11 to put it into orbit
- finally reached a level comensurate with space exploration costs. The
- Italians and French has raised their prices on the exotica, and the total
- rebuild cost went beyond what I am willing to pay. Enough is enough.
-
- So..... with some sadness, ma moto was sold last Saturday under the salvage
- title. I got the amount I lost by keeping her on the insurance settlement.
- Fair enough.
-
- Then, the question arose, what to do with the insurance money that has been
- on deposit with the dealer since August. A long vacation in Hawaii? A much
- dreamed about trip to Bankok? More funding for a startup business? Or, a new
- motorcycle. Well, thats not hard to answer, is it?
-
- Anyway, in about a month, I'll be the owner of a new ZX-11 D1, despite the
- awful hue of the paint and the tacky graphics. Paint and decals can be altered
- easily enough if they become too painful. And the best part of all is that
- I already have put down (by leaving my insurance money there) 80 percent of
- the purchase price, making the rest much less painful.
-
- Why another ZX-11? Because there isn't a ZX-12? Well, I looked at the CBR900RR
- and its too agressive for me, I don't tie into pretzels as easily as I used
- to. The ZX-7R has long held my interest, but ditto the last sentence. The FZR
- is as always pick of the litter, and the new GSXRs are looking pretty good.
- But, when it all comes down to it, I'd rather have the comfort and high
- speed distance ability of the ZX-11 when used for sport touring than the
- knife-edged handling of the real sportbikes. And having once experienced the
- acceleration and brute power of the ZX-11, I find I'd like some more of it.
-
- This one won't get any engine mods, Muzzy pipes, of V&H ignition advancers.
- Braided brake hoses, yes. Progressive fork springs, yes, when they are
- available. My Ohlins if it fits, yes. An Ungo M2000 alarm, yes. But I think
- I won't make it any louder or quicker than originally delivered. Must be
- getting more sedate in my old age. :-)
-
- Oh, and if anyone wants good leathers and can get to Helimot in San Jose,
- I'd highly recommend it! I just was fitted for a custom 2-piece Pesci suit,
- and considering my considerable girth, the final price was more than
- reasonable. Maybe I'll get it before Spring. :-)
-
- Ergo, I am now removing the ZX-11 From Hell line from my .sig
