- A few days ago, I asked for info on hard luggage for an R80RS. Here are
- the replies that I managed to get. I lost one somehow. The gist of
- that note was to contact a friendly local BMW dealer and see if they
- could find luggage off of a pavement challenged bike. I am including
- the whole message I sent out with the first reply. YO Pasker, I think
- there is an address or two in here you might want to check against the
- Yellow Pages.
-
- Hope this helps someone.

- Well funny you should ask!!!
-
- I am in the process uncluttering my life and garage.
-
- I have a set of Krauser bags with universal mounts that I would
- be willing to part with.
-
- Also I have an old Windjammer with the external turn signals and
- a mount that was last on an old style 750 Honda. The windjammer
- is a silver color. with pop vents, storage pocket and lockable
- compartment.
-
- My present livery would not look good with this equipment

- Tell him to call Capital Cycle in Sterling, VA at 1-800-642-5100.
-
- If they can't fix him up with luggage no one can.
-
- By the way, Bob's BMW (formerly Used Parts) is a good source, too. They
- may have a set of bags/mounts off a wreck, etc.. Try them at 301-924-5155.

- Here's one solution, not sure if it's feasable for his needs.
-
- I wanted to put hard bags on my '84 R80-GS/PD, and already had a K1100-LT
- sitting in the other corner of the garage. After studying the situation
- for a bit, a friend told me that BMW made bag holders for an R bike to
- take K bike hard bags ... :-), investigated further. They sure do, but
- the holders are for a regular R bike, not a GS (which has a high muffler
- along the left side of the luggage rack). I got the R/K bag holders anyway
- and constructed brackets to install them on the R80-GS/PD; this lets me
- use the K1100-LT bags on the R80 - particularily since the K1100 bags are
- even larger than the earlier ones this works real good. That is, if you
- ignore the aqua colored hard bags on a white and orange R80!! Now if I
- can just weld up a frame to mount the LT tail trunk onto the R80 luggage
- rack ...
-
- For your friends need - if he gets the BMW R bike holders for K bags, they
- should bolt right onto the R80-RS, and then he should get a set of older
- K bike hard bags from a scrap yard, like Bob's BMW in Maryland. Going this
- way, he has lockable hard bags using factory parts, which should enhance the
- resale value of his bike when that time comes around.

- Bob,
-
- Capital Cycle, Inc. sells the old style (pre-K bike) Krauser saddlebags
- under the name Hepco & Becker. The July '92 issue of Rider magazine had
- a review of them. You can contact Capital Cycle at (703) 444-2500 or
- 1508 Moran Road, P.O. Box 528, Sterling, VA 20167 for a set of brochures
- on Hepco & Becker and Givi brand saddlebags.
-
- Also, Swanee & Co., Inc. just started to advertise fairings, air dams,
- and luggage in Rider. I have not dealt with them but am going to give
- them a call at (800) 547-8273. Their address is 1550 Main Street,
- Milton Freewater, OR 97862.
-
- Good luck,
- Dustin Kassman
