- I bought my '87 Virago two years ago with 4500 miles on the odometer. It
- now has 22,500 miles on the odometer. It sounds like your experience with
- it becoming 'lazy' at over 4000 RPM is contrary to my experience with my bike.
- My bike is 'lazy' at 2-3 K, then at 3K pulls very hard up through about 6K.
- After about 5K, I find it will accelerate better if I let off the throttle
- a bit. (My bike runs a bit rich, since I do almost all of my riding at
- above 6000 ft in elevation).
-
- It sounds like the carb needs adjusting in the bike you rode (or maybe the
- valves).
-
- The 1100 Virago should be the fastest cruser, except for the V-MAX.
- According to the stats published in the magazines, it should outrun
- any stock Harley, Intruder, or Vulcan (including the 1500cc Vulcan).
- Except for starter problems (which I am told were corrected in
- later model years (except mine may be acting up every now
- and then)), the bike, is very reliable. My bike has never let me
- down (but my started makes funny noises every now and then).
-
- I love my Virago. Buy it and get it throughly tuned up. You will
- probably love it.
