- Hi all,
- There is a full size glider club down here (oz) that runs special promotions
- to get Japanese tourists in for gliding holidays - either to learn , or get
- more time for those already qualified in them.
- It struck me that maybe something similar may be of interest to R/C fliers on
- holiday down here. It shouldn't be too hard to at least make lists of Clubs
- and flying sites available to tourists through their own national control
- bodies (like the AMA) so that they can get in touch for at least a look-see and
- chat. To be able to fly for more than a few times would mean some sort of
- short term honorary membership (to get insurance) and a check flight, and a run
- down of any local rules. Most clubs here allow visitors 3 visits before asking
- them to join formally. From what I have seen, about 80% of fliers here fly
- Mode 1, but I believe most US fliers are Mode 2 ??? is this correct.
- Anyway, how many out there have/might/will visit Oz some time, and would like
- to at least visit a club, and/or fly while they're here?? .
- To give you an idea of our field: about 25km from centre of a metro area of
- >2.2 million, in the back of a public park, next to a Golf course (a little
- overflight on approach from the south) , 1 N/S strip grass (but good) ~400+ft,
- 1 ~E/W 300 ft(downhill slightly), overfly area ~ 50 acres, nearest road is
- visible ~.7 km away current ceiling 300ft (but applied for 1000ft), < 15mins
- drive for most members. membership 130+, but rare to see more than 20 pilots
- at the strip at any one time. No club house as yet (tenure is not secure) but
- we are working on it. Flying any time after 9:00 AM any day.
-
- Let me know if there is any interest at all, or e-mail if you want info on
- sites to visit if you are coming anytime anyway.
