It was ment to start a disscusion, although the messages I got were very informative and helpful, I would like to start a disscussion about this here so here is a start:

Well, you should start with 1/10th scale gas car with recoil starter.
Make sure you get the recoil starter, it was really take the fun out of
gas car when it refueses to start.
1/10th scale car is not as powerfun nor fast as 1/8th scale gas car.
But you will save a lot of money getting to know how to take care of
engine. 1/10th scale cars uses .12 engine rather than .21 engine.
1/10th scale car is very similar to electric. But much more fun than
electric. Smell of nitro, engine reving noise, just no comparison
between gas and electric.
If you have someone to help you out, you should start out with 1/8th scale car.
I'm not sure what your preference is, off road or on road?
There are many 1/8th scale cars avaliable and about five 1/10th scale car.
Try to get Kyosho kit. They have full line of replacement parts and
easy to find parts. Tower Hobby always have their parts for really good
price.
