- Not quite. They tried to save the hand but were not able to. They
- told him that he would have to lose the hand, and he refused to
- allow the apmutation. The gangrene (or whatever) spread and they
- said the arm would have to come off. He still refused. Then the
- hokey pokey thing happened with the crow and he gave his permission
- to take the arm off.

- Not what I got from the story. The monk replied that the loss of
- the arm, while seemingly a sorrowful event, was perhaps a blessing
- in disguise... valuable lessons and all that. He also made mention
- that the decision to allow the arm to be removed was the sole right
- of the injured man. I could not agree more. There was none of that
- "we MUST save him fromi himself" bullshit.
