- There was a good-sized tree peony here when I bought my house, and I
- waited with great anticipation from summer til the next spring, when
- it had many 8-12" pale yellow flowers with pink edges. They're
- spectacular! I love watching the fat buds burst open in the spring,
- the tiny crinkled leaves rapidly growing into big divided leaves.
- In the fall, they turn yellow + red, also a bonus. The naked stems
- in the winter are a tad unlovely, in my opinion, but a small price
- to pay. They haven't had any pest problems, and they do need a modest
- amount of summer water.
-
- I think it does take a year or two for small plants to flower, and
- the flowering-sized ones I've seen in nurseries are REALLY
- expensive.
-
- A couple of branches of my plant have started to block the
- sidewalk, so if anyone has hints on propagating from cuttings, I'd
- love to know when and how.
