  13.     Now, how about armor? I'd like to see the Chaos Shield of The Elric
  14. Saga implemented -- get it off a fire giant, or have a "Mordaga level" complete
  15. with life draining tree-spirits and 144 soldiers (!), depending on how powerful
  16. you want it to be. You could also be granted a polished silver shield named
  17. Aegis by Athena or Lugh. In _The Silmarillon_, a vampire named Thuringwethil
  18. had an interesting cloak. I suggest that she be placed in Vlad's Tower as a
  19. consort and automatically carry a cloak of invisibility.

  22.     If anyone has read the Pliocene Exile saga plus _Jack the Bodiless_ by
  23. Julian May, what do you think of CE interface armor? Pretend for the moment
  24. that telepathy in Nethack is a low level equivalent to metapsychic suboperancy.
  25. CE helmet, CE suit (the generator might cause problems -- "there is a CE rig
  26. here, but you cannot carry anymore" :-)  I think maybe just the helmet. I know
  27. that telekinesis has been bandied about as a use of "Pw" which has hardly been
  28. pushed to its full potential.  PK + EE (AC -30 astral projection, if you get
  29. "killed" you pop back into your body minus all current Pw) + ultrasenses (a
  30. Meta-key ;-) that lets you perform the function of a stethoscope) + creativity
  31. (enhance AC temporarily with high drain on Pw) + coercion/redaction (since
  32. there are no "psionic" attacks in NH as it is except possibly paralysis by
  33. floating eye, stun/confusion by demon lords, and seduction, these functions
  34. would be hard to implement). You might make only a certain small percentage
  35. fully operant (via intrinsic), something that can't be gained as the intrinsic
  36. if you don't enter the game with it, but if a torc is found...
  37. Real operants are automatically telepathic, but the minimal level of latency
  38. required to be raised by a torc (Amulet of Metapsychic Operancy) requires
  39. telepathy. Without it, the hapless hacker undergoes black torc syndrome
  40. (Sickness) and will need divine assistance just to remove the amulet. CE armor
  41. is only useful as regular armor (doing a bit of damage when you put it on), but
  42. worn by an operant (even a torced one), it doubles Pw and greatly increases
  43. the effects of metafunctions. Oh, and of course farsensing operants don't need
  44. a blindfold to get the monster-detection effect.
