- I just went through the same thing. I'm 5 ft tall *and* I have short legs.
-
- I bought an "Obrist" saddle made by a swiss company, Fels Bach. The top of the
- saddle is covered in pig skin and is really comfortable, but more fragile than
- normal leather.
-
- I recommend looking at used tack, especially for old style dressage saddles. The
- new style ones have quite long flaps and also the long billet straps. The older
- style ones, I found tend to have shorter flaps, typically about 2" shorter, and
- they also tend to have normal billet straps so you can use your old girths.
-
- The Obrist is an "old" styple dressage saddle. I found that there are a fair
- number of the old type saddles around for sale in fairly good shape and reasonably
- cheap. The one I got was in pristine condition and I got it for $550.
-
- Another rider in my barn has the same leg problem. She got a used stubben dressage
- saddle that worked. I can't remember the model name, but they are black on top
- with tan bottoms (can someone help me out here?).
