- I have 2 Fallis saddles that I bought new about 12 or so years ago.
- They have a flat seat and the stirrups are hung more forward than on
- conventional western saddles. Where a conventional western saddle
- drives you back into the cantle, the flat seat of the Fallis promotes a
- sound forward seat. Hence the name 'Balanced Ride'. The rigging is a
- really neat 3 point setup that prevents building up many layers of
- latigo under your leg. Once you get used to these saddles, a
- conventional western saddle with a built-up seat feels like something
- from hell. The saddle was originally designed by Monte Foreman,
- legendary western horseman, trainer, and teacher.
-
- If I were in the market for a western saddle, it would be a Fallis or
- nothing. I have never, as in EVER, seen a used Fallis for sale. They
- are essentially custom made and they aren't cheap. Nothing worthwhile
- is. You order a saddle by picking the fork, horn, cantle, skirt, and
- seat styles, seat size, tooling, and a lot of other stuff. The saddle
- is then build to your specifications. Neat.
-
- When I bought the 2 that I have, Fallis was located in Elbert Colorado.
- I think the business moved to Oregon and then back to Colorado. I
- think. It's worth your while to track them down. Compared to their
- saddles all other western saddles are wanting. Most of the others seem
- to have been made by someone who once saw a picture of a horse.
