- A few months ago, there was a thread going on about what to
- do with a horse when you want to retire him. A lot of people
- expressed concern about selling/giving away a horse to someone
- they didn't know because they were afraid they would go to
- the slaughter house. Anyway, in the February issue of Horse
- Illustrated there was a small article I thought might interest
- some of you. Here it is, copied, of course, without permission:
-
- An adoption program is the newest service provided by HorseAid,
- a division of the International Generic Horse Association. Owners
- that can no longer keep their horses can contact the organization
- to place their horses. HorseAid then freeze brands each horse with
- an "HA" (no kill) mark. The brand is registered with the USDA and
- prevents sale to slaughterhouses. Persons in possession of a
- horse marked with the "HA" brand, other than the HorseAid or the
- current legal adopter, will be prosecuted by law. For more information
- contact the International Generic Horse Association, P.O. Box 6778,
- Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90734-6778, (310) 719-9094.
