- My name is Kathy Ruiz (was Webster--recently married Garry Ruiz).
- We live in Morgan Hill, California (south of San Jose). I work
- at Sun Microsystems as a Marketing writer.
-
- I got my first horse at six, but never took lessons until I was 25. I'm
- 29 (30 on March 3) and have been riding regularly for about 4.5 years.
- Together, my husband and I own two horses. Troublesome Rocket is a 16
- hand, 16 year old AQHA that we bought together four years ago. I
- originally showed him in Western pleasure shows and now I show him in
- local english/hunter shows. Prince Arax (we call him AJ--it's easier
- ;^) is a 15.2 hand, six year old Russian Arabian. When we were
- boarding, I took some basic english lessons on him and did a little
- jumping (new to both of us). He is extremely smart and learns fast. We
- bought him when he had just turned 4 and had been ridden once--now
- that's what I call green broke ;^). He was trained to show halter
- class--his ground manners were great. We originally bought him to do
- endurance riding, but now are interested in hunter/jumper and dressage
- and maybe an endurance ride or two a year.
-
- We recently bought a house on a couple of acres with a barn and haven't
- been riding as much as we used to. However, my husband is in the
- process of putting up arena lights and we have part of the arena done
- (we've ridden in it several times, but due to the 15 straight days of
- rain here in California (I know, much needed) we haven't ridden in two
- weeks (and I'm becoming rather cranky :^(. As soon as the sun comes out
- I'm going to start my training with AJ. I'm quite excited and nervous
- as he threw me over his head and I did a complete somersault. Thank god
- for helmets.
-
- I also compete in ride & ties (an endurance ride with two people and
- one horse where you switch running and riding over rough turrain--any
- where from 20 - 40 miles). My partner and I use her 17 year old
- Arabian.
-
- If anyone has any suggestions on videos for hunter/jumper or dressage
- (beginning probably for both) please let me know.
-
- Not to bore you all, we also have a wonderful 2 year old male Alaskan
- Malmute named Nanook. He sometimes thinks he is a horse and when the
- horses start their daily play time, he joins in. He also likes to go
- into the horses stalls after they finish their grain and he takes the
- bucket in his mouth and struggles to get out of the fence so he can
- lick up any leftovers. This is definately a sight to see! Also we have
- two adorable cats (brothers) that we rescued from the barn we boarded
- at (no body fed them but us) named Alan and Climber.
