- RC | My only sources now are a short encyclopedic set
- RC | of dry summaries. But I remember an old book with pictures,
- RC | etc... in English. (I can read other languages, including Russian,
- RC | if you know of works in various languages.)
- RC |
- RC | Does anybody know ANYTHING about this breed? A society (or
- RC | just a breeder) in this country? A book with a chapter on them,
- RC | mebbe pictures? Any info is appreciated.

- An older, probably out-of-print coffee table type book, _Horses of the
- World_ by Maurizo Bongianni and Concetta Mori, 1985, describes the
- Akhal-Teke on pages 144-145:
-
- ". . . This is an impressive and elegant horse, with good confirmation
- and proud bearing. It has a lively and courageous temperament, although
- at times it may be rebellious and stubborn. The skeletal structure and
- the development of the main musculature clearly indicate its marked
- apptitude for speed, combined with good stamina. It is used with great
- success in international sporting events, thanks not the least to its
- skill as a jumper and the ease of it movements. One member of this
- breed (Absent) won the Gold Medal at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome."
- "Place of Origin: USSR (Turkmenistan). Height at withers: 14:2 to
- 15:2."
-
- _The Ultimate Horse Book_ by Elwyn Hartley Edwards, published by Dorling
- Kindersley, NY, 1991, has pretty complete illustration of the Akhal-
- Teke on pages 42-43. In fact, I recommend this book to anybody
- interested in horse breeds of the world.
