- Watching the resident Carolina Wren here this morning, I was alerted to the
- presence of another wren in the yard. I watched it for a good 20 minutes on
- a perch atop a brush pile at the edge of our woods.
-
- Spotting marks:
- - small (3-3.5")
- - solid rufous back
- - unbarred buff underside
- - slight barring at or under wingtips
- - buff stripe above eye
- - dark area behind eye
- - pronounced white spots on shoulders and wings
-
- Anyone have any idea what this wren is? I looked in Golden (both editions),
- Peterson, two Audubons (1 photos, 1 drawings), and the American Heritage books
- of Audubon's own watercolor paintings, and couldn't find any with such visible
- white spots. None of the books illustrated plumage variances for immature
- wrens, so I'm totally at a loss.
-
- Thanks,
-
