Does anybody own a 1991 Trek 6000 with suntour XC-LTD components? (or know anybody who does?)
We found that when using the smallest chainring, the chain sometimes falls off the chainring. Each time it fell off, the chain was dropped underneath the inner chainring, onto the part of the axle which extend out from the bottom bracket. This immediately causes the chain to get sucked up between the chainrings and the seat stay where it remains jammed. I have also had the chain fall off, on a different mountain bike, equipped with shimano chainrings, without experiencing chain suck. Comparing the two
different granny chainrings, I noticed that the part on the Shimano chainrings where the bolt holes are located are larger and extend towards the inside of the chainring. Is this sufficient to prevent chain suck? The only time we have experienced chainsuck was on the Suntour equipped Trek 6000.
