- You didn't say what kind of terrain or level of difficulty you
- enjoy. If you want mountains under 1500' with timber line often below
- 700', and hiking on bare granite above that, spectacular views of the
- surrounding mountains, lakes, and ocean, you can't beat Acadia National
- Park on Mt. Desert Island. Its the best views for the least effort of any
- area I know. I'll leave descriptions of Katahdin, and other more
- "serious" hiking areas to people who have been there more recently than me.
