- True or not, these remarks betray an arrogance that enables "Wise
- Use" and other anti-environmental groups to claim backcountry
- enthusiasts are "elitists". Anti-elitism is used as a rallying
- point for such groups in their battle against conservation,
- restrictions in wilderness areas, etc.
