- Sorry this is about Peugeot in r.a.vw, but I couldn't resist. This month's
- issue of Automobile magazine has an interesting article about why Peugeot
- failed in the US, and that it was a failure of management, not of product.
- Also, get this- when they announced they are leaving, this guy went out
- and bought a 405 Mi16 brand new w/ everything including ABS, pullout
- stereo, roadside assistance, etc. for 12.5k!! I remember the one thing that
- kept me away fromt this car was its infleted price at the time (21k or so),
- and I thought it was a very good car otherwise. Also, they had federalized
- the 205 and the 605, but it was too late, they had already decided to pull out.
-
- It seemed most of the problem was that Peugeot just did not take the American
- market seriously, and did not give a lot of customer support, dealer network,
- etc. I now have a 90 GLI which I love, and I sure hope VW doesn't make the
- same mistakes.
-
- Just a thought, and sorry for the long post!
