- Why have you decided against the larger diameter clutch? If the car is to
- be used on the street at all, then I would stay away from the four-puck disc.
- If you upgrade to the larger diameter disc/pressure plate, you will have
- a greater clamping force with less pedal pressure. Considering the cost of
- racing clutches, it would probably be cheaper to change the flywheel,
- pressure plate and friction surface to a larger 210 mm unit. If you are
- only getting 130hp at the crank, then you should have no problems with
- slippage unless you really heat it up. My 1.8 8V makes about 130-135 hp,
- and I run a stock 210mm clutch with a 16V pressure plate and have no
- problems at all.
-
- If your GTi is being used as a full-out autocross/time trial car, then
- you might want to go for the racing clutch. But, it will be expensive,
- engage very abruptly, and you will probably break a few clutch cables.
- Until you make over 150hp, you shouldn't need it.
-
- Good luck...
