- Well...I'm on my second "sporty" VW. The first was a (then) new 86 GTI.
- I had it about six months and then ripped off all the suspension and
- replaced it with Neuspeed sway bars, upper strut tie bar and the koni
- sport setup which included thier own springs. I liked it a lot needless
- to say. The upper strut tie bar really gave the most bang for the buck.
- Cornering was much quicker.
-
- In 90 I sold the GTI and bought a new GLI and got the dealer to take the car
- to my favorite shop and get all the suspension replaced and threw the cost in
- to the price of the car. I got the bigger Neuspeed bars (heavier car) same
- upper strut tie bar, koni struts again but with the Neuspeed progressive
- springs for the GLI. WOW....what a difference from the GTI. Even my friends
- commented on how well the car rode. I expected it to be a little worse 'cuz
- of all the extra wieght, but it is way smoother than the 'ol GTI.
-
- Clearly I'm sold on the performance stuff. But don't forget that tires make
- a big difference too. This car has had only Yokohama AVS's. I just got a new
- set on them after putting 30k on the original ones. I think its a great tire!
