- Sounds like you had a Monte Carlo. You may have problems finding another
- as nice as that was a rare combination. I own a 71 Sonett which I have
- had for 12 years now. It is currently down for paint, glass work, and
- interior. You really might want to look in other areas. I junked out a
- '71 96 about a year ago. Bad mechanically, but the body was in nice
- shape. It could have been easily saved. There are still a fair number
- of 96s floating around here. Virtually all of them are V-4s, but I do
- know a guy up in FT Collins who has several unrestored 2-strokes. He
- offered to give me one as the basis for a vintage racer last summer. I
- expect there might be stuff available.
-
- One last note. In the past, I have steered a couple of people on to
- Colorado rust-free stuff only to have them take them back to the midwest
- and ruin them as daily drivers. Just because something is still in
- reasonable supply in one area doesn't make it fair game for trashing. We
- are currently going through some weirdness here with early MGBs. Every
- unrestored example is being bought up and disappearing. A dealer in
- Longmont has had a steady stream of British roadsters flowing through
- the place for the last six months. Every one is labelled "SOLD" as soon
- as it hits the lot. I suspect these are finding their way back to
- England. It is a shame, as there really isn't anything else to replace
- them, and something which used to be drivable and fun is rapidly
- becoming rare.
