- Several people have expressed the opinion that "fluxbusters" can be of
- use in improving the deteriorated sound of moving coil cartridges.
- The idea is that a magnetic flux builds up in the coil windings of
- these cartridges, adversely affecting their sound. Periodic
- degaussing is supposed to remove this flux and restore the sound.
- I must admit to being both skeptical, and ignorant of the theoretical
- reasons why it might (or might not) work. Seems to me it would be
- interesting to hear both theoretical and empirical points of view.
- If I could locate such a device I'd try it on my now lifeless sounding
- Monster AG1000 and make up my own mind! The stylus is a bit worn but
- not bad by inspection with a microscope- the cartridge probably has
- close to a 1000 hours on it. Its my feeling that the cantilever
- suspension has worn out. Comments anyone? Thanks!
