- I've noticed, in travelling to other parts of the country, that people are much
- friendlier in public places than they are in New England. The contrast is
- especially noticeable in clubs. In places like Atlanta or VA, if I go into a
- bar by myself, both men and women who notice that I am by myself will strike up
- a conversation with me. In other places, like Dallas, people welcome a
- conversation, but aren't as likely to take the initiative with a stranger (at
- least, not me). Here in New England, it seems that people really make me work
- for every inch in the getting-to-know-you game. Have those who travel noticed
- this difference? If you did, in what ways have you brought what you learned in
- those other places back to New England?
