  35. FYI, Medi*CARE* is paid for with the 1.45% payroll tax and provides care to
  36. the elderly. Medi*CAID* (called MediCal in California) is paid
  37. for out of the general fund and provides care for the poor. While most 
  38. eldery health care is paid by Medicare, nursing home care is paid for by 
  39. Medicaid.
