- What is "wrong" with it is that it sets up a power struggle over food. It is
- the dictates of an authoritarian parent telling his child "eat this or go
- hungry". Reminds me of the Beast in "Beauty and the Beast".
-
- You are probably an authoritarian parent and that is your perogative. But
- most of the parents on this net tend more "democratic" parenting than
- "authoritarian" parenting and this is just one example of the differences of
- approach.
-
- What is wrong with letting them eat spaghettios or macaroni and cheese and
- fixing yourself something more to your tastes at the same time? It isn't
- like their prefered dishes take a lot of time to cook. In fact, you could
- fix your dinner for yourself and just heat the kids dinners in the background.

- Yes, I know a lot of adults who just eat whatever is set in front of them and
- are happy to be fed. I've also noticed that none of these adults are cooks
- or enjoy cooking. My guess is that there are a bunch of people with numb
- taste buds who eat what anyone will cook. And then there are a bunch of us
- who are very finicky eaters and learn to cook and LOVE to cook because we can
- delight our taste buds with delicious mixtures of herbs and spices and a
- wide variety of culinary delights.
-
- So, it sounds like your children aren't fussy eaters, they're boring eaters.
- Let them be boring and enjoy yourself. (Plus, there's nothing that will
- interest a child in a food more than not having any because "you won't like
- it").
