  32. I sucked my thumb until I was 10. My parent tried everything to get me to
  33. stop, so I too went underground with my thumb sucking. I quit when I was
  34. 10 because I decided I was too old to continue. I really remember putting a
  35. lot of effort into it, and was pleased with my sucess, not that I could share
  36. it with anyone, since I wasnt supposed to be doing it in the first place.

  38. I am quite sure that pressure from my family had nothing to do with my 
  39. stopping, but did add to the stress of what I was doing. It is hard to 
  40. evaluate, but giving me a hrd time about it adds to stress, and sucking my
  41. thumb helped comfort me, so it is possbible that the if they had let me be,
  42. I might have given it up sooner.

  44. I did need braces for an overbite, and my dad used to tell me that the
  45. overbite was a result of my thumb sucking. I felt bad about that, but 
  46. when I finally did go for braces (actually a retainer), my dentist 
  47. immeidately diagnosed the cause as a result of me resting my tougue against
  48. my front teeth.
