- I am good friends with a family who has a daughter 2 weeks younger
- than Katherine. Katherine ate Oatios (like Cheerios) as a solid food
- from darned near the beginning of her solids - 6 or 7 months old. No
- gagging. Her friend would gag on almost anything, and needed to be fed
- soft mush for what seemed to be a long time. Both were perfectly
- normal, and both went on to eat very normal foods.
-
- My son likes his food mushed much of the time (he's about your
- daughter's age). He likes it very smooth and liquid - so he can gulp
- it down. He'll also eat more chewy food, like grains of rice, if he's
- in the mood. And he freaked out the people at the YMCA nursery a
- couple days ago by gulping down cheerios!
-
- Feed her what she likes to eat, and keep offering her the opportunity
- to try new things - you might try putting a little bit of food on her
- tray and let her self feed the more chewy foods, while you help spoon
- feed her the smooth food. If she starts to want to feed herself most
- of the time, you can thicken her mush with potato buds or whole grain
- rice (or oat) cereal so that it sticks to the spoon better. I used to
- feed Kathy applesauce that way.
