- This is a real guessing game.
-
- Reasons it could go down:
-
- 1. The dividend is cut, so institutional investors sell.
-
- 2. Dividend is cut, and program traders try to panic the public into selling
- (and succeeding).
-
- 3. IBM decides not to cut the dividend, and people feel this
- will put IBM into a worse financial situation.
-
-
- Reasons it could go up:
-
- 1. All the shorts decide that now is a good time to cover their
- short, since there is no more bad news to be heard.
-
- 2. Everyone has already sold.
-
- 3. People have been waiting to buy IBM, but wanted to see
- what would happen at the meeting and if they could get it
- at a better price.
-
- 4. IBM decides not to cut the dividend, so the institutions are
- relieved.
