  12. I want to thank everyone who sent me email in response to my questions
  13. about Craftsman Bungalows.

  15. The most common response was to consult "The Old House Journal".  I have
  16. a library nearby, so I'll go there to look at the back issues.  It sounds
  17. like a wealth of information.

  19. "American Bungalow" magazine was also recommended.  I second that
  20. recommendation, having a subscription of my own - it's a great magazine.
  21.  
  22. Other suggestions seemed pretty specific to my house, but one stands
  23. out in my mind: don't renovate something you know is old in order to
  24. make it how you *think* it was originally.  This guided our recent
  25. decisions in updating a bathroom.

  27. The linoleum wasn't serviceable anymore, the commode needed repairs,
  28. and several latches on the cupboards needed replacing.  We are 
  29. refinishing the wood floor (since we don't mind the upkeep and we know
  30. it was original), repairing the commode (it was built in 1933, approx.),
  31. and replacing the latches with replicas, and storing the originals.
  32. We are also going to be putting up a prepasted wallpaper that will be
  33. easy to remove if it seems appropriate later, but looks very much
  34. "Craftsman-style" and goes well in the bathroom.

  37. all email personally.  To the person who sent phone numbers with an
  38. invitation to call - we plan to do that as soon as we get all the
  39. sawdust mopped up... 8-)
