-
- Life threatening isn't even the issue. If I can avoid dealing with
- a screaming child who needs medical attention for a scalded hand, I'll do it.

- My 20-month-old figured out how to turn on the hot water faucet about
- a week after she figured out how to climb on the toilet to reach it,
- and that was over 8 months ago. We can't watch her every single second,
- and I'd much rather she learned a lesson from uncomfortably hot water
- than lost use of a hand from scalding water.

-
- No, but she hasn't figured out how to light the stove yet. She did learn
- the meaning of the word "hot", somewhere around 13 months of age, and
- respects it when we tell her that something is hot. But when the stove is
- in use, there is a responsible person in the room.
