- Hi Phil,
- Re your comment:
- PF>Pacific PowerNet utilises our own extensive telecommunications network to
- PF>provide a very low user access cost over a large part of NSW.
- PF>We have been trialling the system for some 6 months and hope to officially
- PF>"launch" the project within the next month or two.
-
- That sounds quite similar to what I am doing here in NZ.
- IBM has a leased voice line, with multiple voice sub-channels between
- PABX's in each branch office in New Zealand's main centres (Auckland,
- Wellington, Christchurch). Each PABX can be called from any in-house
- extension, and then access an outside line to make a local call. Since
- these are set up for business hours use, there is no great demand for
- their usage over night. So I have placed a BBS in IBM Auckland, on an
- extension. By dialling a 2-digit PABX link number, I get through to
- Wellington or Christchurch, several hundred miles away. By then dialling
- '1' I get a local outside line. By dialling the local BBS number, I can
- connect to a hub BBS in either city and exchange K12Net and other mail
- and files at no cost to those sites.
-
- IBM sponsors the trans-Tasman link, so I call Geoff Shearsby in Sydney
- every night of the week to exchange K12 and the other Education echoes
- (eg LIBRARY, COLLEGE, STUDENTS etc).
-
- Telecom helps with the link from Christchurch to Dunedin, and various
- other groups fund any calls to other outlying areas in NZ.
- I hope you are successful in your venture to help promote K12Net
- in a similar manner in Australia.
-
- Regards, Terry Bowden K12Net Coordinator for New Zealand
