- Not! quoted-insert can insert only one character, although characters
- can be displayed in various ways. For example, patches allow
- characters with the 8th bit set to be displayed as is, provided the
- screen allows it (e.g. uses an ISO 8859 font). In general the
- 'ctl-arrow' variable controls this.

- I really don't think the input mode should mess with the way
- characters are displayed, and vice-versa. Those are two orthogonal
- concepts which should stay independent. In my opinion, then,
- quoted-insert should NOT overwrite more than one character in
- overwrite-mode, regardless of the value of 'ctl-arrow'.
