- The X Color Management System (Xcms) is not an extension but instead a
- standard part of Xlib that has always been available in X11R5. The
- Xcms enhancements to Xlib are documented in Chapter 6 of the
- Xlib - C Language X Interface
- MIT X Consortium Standard
- Version 11, Release 5
- available in the X11R5 release in mit/doc/Xlib and mit/hardcopy/Xlib.
- You can also get the same info in the X11R5 version of "X Window System
- - C Library and Protocol Reference" from Digital Press.
-
- As for the book mentioned in O'Reilly's "R5 Update", I apologize that it
- has not been published. O'Reilly and Associates have done a wonderful job
- of providing X related manuals and references to the X community. I'm sure
- its difficult for them to keep up with the mass of X info so their efforts
- must be directed to projects based on percieved demand. I'm expecting
- word from O'Reilly and Associates on how they would like to proceed
- with the "X Color Management" related book that has been placed on the
- "back burner".
-
- Like I said Xcms is in X11R5 Xlib. North Valley Research (NVR) is using
- it successfully to improve the display of MPEG images. If anyone else
- has related success stories I'd like to hear about them (send to alt@nvr.com).
-
- The X Image Extension (XIE) addresses an X wire protocol for images, something
- that Xcms intentionally stayed away from. Fortunately like Xcms, XIE does
- support device-independent color specification.
