  27. Tvtwm uses the concept of a virtual desktop, that is larger than the
  28. (physical) screen. What you see is really a part of the desktop.
  29. You can move your window on the desktop. Windows can be configured to
  30. stick (i.e. always appear on your screen, no matter how the desktop is
  31. mapped).

  33. Ctwm uses the concept of workspaces: the desktop is what you see in
  34. your window, but you can have multiple desktops. With a nice button
  35. panel you can switch between workspaces. Windows can be configured to
  36. stick (like tvtwm), or to appear in one or more workspaces.

  38. Which is better depends on what you want. If you need a big desktop
  39. and do not mind scrolling all of the time, tvtwm is what you need.  If
  40. you want to organize your work by using multiple desktops for
  41. different purposes, ctwm is best.

  43. I have been very happy with tvtwm for years, but I used it to organize
  44. my work by dividing the big desktop in smaller parts and switching
  45. between these parts. This is precisely what the workspace concept of
  46. ctwm does, so I switched to ctwm when it came out.

  48. BTW: The concept of workspaces is not new. It has been inplemented in
  49. several 'rooms' type packages. As far as I known, only the HP window
  50. manager and GWM have implemented it in the window manager (where it
  51. belongs). And ctwm, of course.
