  12. I have a SUN3/260 (4.1) with two Fujitsu disk drives.  Recently during
  13. level 0 backups I noticed the system reporting the following errors
  14. on the console:
  15.      xy1g:read restore (disk sequencer error) ...
  16.      xy1c:read restore (header not found) ...
  17.  
  18. Suspecting a disk problem I ran sundiag(nostics) which reported the
  19. following:
  20. 010.09.999.9085 01/09/93 14:50:43 rxy1c rawtest ERROR: Big read failed on disk, block 1891: I/O error.
  21. 999.00.200.7012 01/09/93 14:50:47 tesla sundiag INFO: *Failed test*
  22.  (xy1) rawtest    passes: 0    errors: 1 
  23.  
  24. fsck reports no problems (other that about 2% fragmentation) on the
  25. drives.
  26.  
  27. Questions:
  28.   1.  What are the possibilities it is a disk drive as oppossed to the
  29.   disk controller?
  30.  
  31.   2.  The drive is 5 years old and in constant use.  Could this problem
  32.   possibly be resolved by a re-format (ie-could the alignment be drifting).

  34.   3.  Any suggestions on how to further isolate the problem would be greatly
  35.   appreciated!
