- <My understanding from the Sun Engineer at the local sales office is

- <sales rep. neglected to mention the Solaris 1.X incompatibilty problem
- <perhaps you could get Sun to take the machines back.
-
- Your understanding is a little bit off...
-
- The I/O structure of the new SPARC processor in these computers is a little
- bit different, so the kernal driver needed changing.
-
- At the outset, Sun management said that these two machines will only run
- Solaris 2.x. E-mail/postings were flying around the internal Sun network,
- saying that a few minor changes to the driver(s) would fix the problem of
- loading 4.1.x onto these machines.
-
- Management got wind of it...said the following...(paraphrased)
-
- Whomever discusses changing the OS to allow Solaris 1.x to run on these
- machines, or change code to make it work, will be fired.
-
- Management has decreed that these two platforms WILL not run 4.1.x, ever.
-
- Guess what, we aren't buying those machines or suggesting that our customers
- get them.
