- I've read several places (net, magazines, etc.) that claim the system
- 7 shipped with the performa is 'watered down', 'crippled',
- 'brain-dead', or otherwise less than that delivered with other
- systems. Is this true, or are people just showing their prejudices
- and ignorance (and envy?). It all seems to work just fine.
-
- I have a performa 600CD. When I am at work (on my Sun), reading the
- news or a trade publication, I get bummed about the "crippled"
- performa line, the "ugly" performa line, the "soon-to-be-obsolete"
- performa line, the "still-more-expensive-than-a-peecee" performa line,
- the "can't-find-software-locally" performa line, etc. ad. naseum. I
- really feel either jerked around or stupid depending on the weather.
- Then....
-
- I get home and work on the performa and, shazaam, I couldn't be
- happier. Adequate memory (5 meg), a nice size disk (160 meg), the
- great built in CD ROM, plenty of room for expansion, a good, sturdy,
- long lasting metal case, and (IMHO) good looks to boot. And the grand
- total of time spent configuring the system, printer, modem, software,
- etc. is probably, oh, 15 minutes (counting the time to read the quick
- references).
-
- So what if not one more Performa 600 rolls off the assembly line a
- month from now? So what if other Mac users think it's crippled -- I've
- got mine and it'll keep me happy for a long time. And when technology
- marches by, I'll just by an accelerator and keep on goin'.
-
- I think one of us is schizophrenic :-\
-
- As an afterthought, Didja ever notice how stoopid (sic) peecee sales
- people are? All buzzwords and goofy smiles. Ever notice that Apple
- sales people are even STOOPIDER? Geez. Every sales person I ever
- talked to about the mac didn't even know the right buzzwords, much
- less anything about the machines. *sigh*
