  15. I'm trying to Upgrade from sys 6.0.7 to Sys 7.0. I don't get 
  16. any errors during the installation of sys 7.0 or when I do 
  17. the sys 7. tuneup. When I boot up I get system error "finder" 
  18. bad f-line instruction or if I hold down the shift key 
  19. (causing extensions not to load) while booting I get system 
  20. error "finder" illegal instruction. Amazingly, the booting 
  21. process completes successfully if I lock the disk before 
  22. booting. I think the error occurs while the system is trying 
  23. to rebuild the desktop for some reason unknown to me. 
  24. Unfortunately, there is not much I can do with a locked disk!

  26. I have a Mac II with no internal hard drive and two 800k 
  27. floppy drives, an 11" apple B/W monitor with 8 Megs ram and 
  28. an AST286 card installed. My hard drive is an almost new 
  29. removable media Bernoulli Dual 90 Pro which I boot from. I 
  30. have no problems with system 6.0.7 except for my FaxSTF 
  31. software bombing randomly when sending faxes (some times it 
  32. works sometimes it don't) which is why I'm trying to upgrade 
  33. to sys 7.0.

  35. I got the sys 7.0 software, disk tools, and tuneup from ftp 
  36. ftp.apple.com in ./mac/sys.soft/7.0... via the Colorado Super 
  37. Net. (Has anyone successfully upgraded from this source?) 
  38. I decoded the binhex files to the image files using Stuffit 
  39. Classic 1.6. I transfered the image files to 800k floppies 
  40. using DiskCopy 4.2.

  42. I did a full backup.

  44. I booted from a sys 6.0.7 floppy with the Iomega driver. 
  45. which lets me see the mounted 90MB cartridge. I threw away 
  46. the old system folder. Then, I put in the sys 7.0 Install 1 
  47. floppy and used the default install. The standard install 
  48. asked for all the floppies except the disk tools and the 
  49. tuneup. This completed successfully.

  51. When I try to boot from this cartridge I get the system bomb.

  53. Then, I tried various permutations like installing only the 
  54. minimum Mac II configuration. Same result. I also tried 
  55. zapping the pram. Same result. I also tried running the 
  56. tuneup. This completed successfully. Same result.

  58. The cartridge passes disk first aid and Norton Utilities Disk 
  59. Doctor.
