- The best way I've seen to preserve a GIF file for use as a desktop
- patern is to compress the GIF using Apple's QuickTime 1.5 technology.
- Get PickPixie from ftp.apple.com and compress using the "CopactVideo"
- routines. PictPixie then lets you save the compressed image in PICT
- format. Unfortunately, you can't use an image compressed with QT
- because when the image is loaded into memory at startup, QuickTime has
- not yet been loaded.
-
- There was a control panel called "ColorDesk" that let you use a PICT for
- a desktop patern. It would even strech an image if it was not 640x480
- (or whatever your screen size was). I'm not sure if it is available
- via ftp or not.
