-
- It is possible to fit a minimal system onto a HD floppy. Use the
- "Customize" option from the Installer, and choose "Min. System for
- (insert name of your computer here)" and click "Install." Presto.
-
- Of course, this requires multiple swapping of disks. If your tricky
- though, and you have the available space on your hard drive, use
- "MountImage" (available via anon. FTP from sumex or Umich) to
- "mount" the disk image files on your desktop. As far as the system
- is concerned, you have 4, 6 or even 10 (I think 10 is the limit)
- disk drives! Then just put your 1.4 Mb floppy in your real drive
- and the installation is a snap.
-
- It is _NEVER_ a good idea to just copy the system folder from a
- floppy to your hard drive for use as a primary startup. Always
- use the installer. Thats why Apple created it in the fist place.
- Otherwise, your Mac might just as well be a PC!
-
- BTW - if your system keeps getting "mung"ed, either get the drive
- looked at, or make a copy of the system file before you play with
- ResEdit.
