  11. The local major authorized dealer here in town, a large computer retailer
  12. who's
  13. been around for awhile and has been selling Apple computers for ages, told me
  14. today that installing NuBus cards into a Macintosh (IIci is the machine we
  15. were discussing in particular) voids the warranty.  This discussion came about
  16. after I overheard the salesman discussing with a customer how the customer
  17. would bring his IIci in to have a Radius video board installed.

  19. That's $50 into the dealer's pocket.

  21. I called him on it, gently, in the disbelieving amazement of someone who had
  22. never even thought about it (so as to get him to open up).  He reassured me,
  23. with his manager sitting right next to us paying attention to us, that indeed
  24. installing a NuBus card into any Mac, large format (II/cx/ci/fx/Quadra) or
  25. small (IIsi, LC), would absolutely void the warranty.  The manager looked on
  26. in approval.

  28. It's too late to call the Apple Customer Assistance Center today, but I'd like
  29. to know if anyone else has gotten this song and dance.  Better yet, I'd like
  30. to know if this is indeed the truth--because I strongly suspect it is not.
