- The local major authorized dealer here in town, a large computer retailer
- who's
- been around for awhile and has been selling Apple computers for ages, told me
- today that installing NuBus cards into a Macintosh (IIci is the machine we
- were discussing in particular) voids the warranty. This discussion came about
- after I overheard the salesman discussing with a customer how the customer
- would bring his IIci in to have a Radius video board installed.
-
- That's $50 into the dealer's pocket.
-
- I called him on it, gently, in the disbelieving amazement of someone who had
- never even thought about it (so as to get him to open up). He reassured me,
- with his manager sitting right next to us paying attention to us, that indeed
- installing a NuBus card into any Mac, large format (II/cx/ci/fx/Quadra) or
- small (IIsi, LC), would absolutely void the warranty. The manager looked on
- in approval.
-
- It's too late to call the Apple Customer Assistance Center today, but I'd like
- to know if anyone else has gotten this song and dance. Better yet, I'd like
- to know if this is indeed the truth--because I strongly suspect it is not.
- Didn't this discussion hit the rounds on the net some time ago?
-
- Aloha,
