-
- I have a pair of Labtec SS-100's that I got at Target for around $20. You
- can now find them at most computer/software stores, and now they come in
- gray to match your machine. Each speaker case is about 5" high, and each
- speaker has volume control, bass boost button, and treble boost switch.
- They are amplified and use either batteries or AC power (adapter not
- included, but usually available from same place). I keep both boosts on,
- and they're certainly no Boses, but I am quite satisfied.
-
- I would not go with any sound-activated speakers like the Minimus-0.6 from
- Radio Shack. They may be fine for music, but the computer doesn't make
- sound constantly (well, mine doesn't :), and so the speaker tends to clip
- the beginning of each sound. I also wouldn't go with any non-amplified
- speakers, because the sound level will tend to be too low. The guy at Radio
- Shack tried to recommend Minimus-3.5's, not understanding why anyone would
- need amplified speakers to plug into a headphone jack. Well, duh, there
- isn't much that puts out less power than a headphone jack, so what else are
- amplified speakers for? Anyway, these types (non-amps) also usually don't
- come with a 1/8" plug, so you'd have to attach one yourself. If you look at
- non-amplified speakers, make the salesperson demonstrate them first.
