- The word processing, spreadsheet, and possible dtp work suggests a two
- page
- monitor-probalbly monochrome/greyscale. Color is fun, but you wanted to
- keep
- cost down.
-
- You may want to look into Filemaker for a database, if you don't need a
- relational one (sounds like you don't).
-
- The thing that makes me squeamish about the Duo is that you're schlepping
- around
- your main, one and only computer. This requires some care not to drop,
- bang,
- lose, and let someone sit on it. (maybe I'm just paranoid :-)
- If it's simple text entry, a cheapo radio shack portable computer may be
- an
- alternative for data entry. You then import the data via a serial cable
- into
- the database.
-
- The big monitor will require a video card, so this means not a IIsi, LCII
- because they only have one slot and you don't want to start out slot-less.
- Sounds like a IIci or IIvx is the way to go. There may be new machines
- announced (but not shipping!) on Feb. 10, just to make it more difficult.
- The ci and vx are pretty much mid-range but quite capable machines.
-
- Just opinions!
