- I hope this isn't a FAQ, but I'm baffled with a recent problem with
- our Quadra 950.
-
- Observed problem: A software package (Form-Z - 3D modeling software)
- starts to "bomb" (machine hangs, app quits with type 1 error, etc) at
- random times.
-
- Initial solution: Remove all extensions and re-install the application.
- This works. Put all extensions back - application continues to work.
- A few hours later on the untouched machine the application fails with
- the above repeatable bombs. The next day the machine bombs locks up
- on a different application (Speedometer 3.1).
-
- Configurations which I used to narrow down the problem are:
-
- A) Q950 w/8MB Apple RAM, 230 MB disk, builtin video/13" RGB monitor, and
- a newly installed generic System 7.0.1 w/tuneup 1.1.1.
-
- B) Q950 w/8MB Apple RAM 230 MB disk, E-Machines Futura MX card/19" mon., and
- same system as above.
-
- C) Q950 w/8 MB Apple RAM, 16 MB 3rd party RAM (70ns) the rest like (A) above.
-
- D) Q950 w/8 MB Apple RAM, 16 MB 3rd party RAM (80ns) the rest like (A) above.
-
- In all tests the app was re-copied from the file server before re-running
- it.
-
- Testing (A) and (B) yielded the same results - no problems whatsoever.
-
- Testing (C) and (D) yielded the same results - app failure every time.
-
- Note that the SIMMs used in each of the (C) and (D) tests were taken from
- a Mac IIci (where everything worked fine). In all tests, the app memory
- was the same - the suggested amount (3MB).
-
- Any idea what the problem is? Does the above indicate a hardware problem
- with the 950?
-
- E-mail responses are appreciated, and I will summarize if there is
- general interest.
-
- Thanks much!
