- Okay, this really should be a FAQ, and maybe it is, but I'll answer you anyway.
-
- Many people report their sound going out on them with a IIsi. It has happened
- to me, and it might be the same problem you are having. The problem is most
- commonly attested to a poor connection, and corrosion, between the internal
- speaker, and the motherboard. Some have said this is a result of the way the
- IIsi is constructed, that is without much solder. Some have said the problem
- can be fixed by cleanign the contacts between speaker and board, various
- methods such as using a pencil erraser have been suggested. Others have said
- this is only a temporary fix anyway as the residue will build up again anyway, and
- someone even specifically cautioned *against* using a pencil eraser as it
- could harm something or other.
-
- In any event, spiking the power, that is turning the volume up all the way,
- then back to it's previous level should cause the sound to come back. It will
- leave again later, of course. There is even an FKEY which will automatically
- spike the volume and then turn it back again.
-
- Also, it has been said that this is only an internal speaker problem, so if
- you plug in external speakers there will never be a problem. And even thought
- the majority of people this happens to have IIsi (the majority of IIsi owners
- have this happen to them? perhaps) I personally have noted a sound problem
- which behaves in the exact same way on an LC. So it could happen other
- computers as well.
-
- There. That is the IIsi sound problem, as I know it. I think that was a
- pretty good summary, and hopefully it was the last time it will ever have to
- appear in this group, as I think everyone is getting pretty much sick of it.
- FAQ, anyone?
