- Our department has purchased a Hewlett Packard DAT drive (HP 35480A SCSI) for
- backups. In the product description manual (yes I did read it!) it calls
- for a DDS type of tape (4mm). According to the manual, a standard DAT tape
- will (or may) cause the tape to jam in the machine. Has anyone had experience
- with a DAT drive using the Digital Data Storage (DDS) format? Is it true about
- the dangers of using something other than a DDS tape? Do I HAVE to use a DDS
- tape? Is the only advantage of using a DDS tape data compression?
-
- The reason for this inquiry is I am having a little diffiuclty finding
- DDS tapes. We have a lot of machines to backup and would like to use 90
- foot tapes but can only find two places that even carry DDS tape and only
- one of those two carry the 90 foot type. Is there a place to mail order
- in quantity at a good price per tape? (for DDS tapes). Anybody have an
- idea what the cost per tape should be? I have been to COMP-USA here
- is San Diego CA and have purchased 90 foot DDS tape (SONY) for $24 per tape.
-
- Thanks in advance for advice, suggestion, comments, opinions and any flames
- regarding our choice of hardware!!
