- Well, the PS1700 also costs a lot more than the IIIsi with PostScript.
- However, the Compaq Pagemarq 20 blows both of them away for speed and
- costs less too (tradeoff is that there is no double-sided option on the
- Pagemarq, but there is 11x17). I think even the Pagemarq 15 processes
- PostScript code faster than the IIIsi and PS1700, but I don't have any
- test results handy.
-
- One drawback to the Pagemarq is that Compaq does not have .APD, .PPD,
- .PDF, or .PDX files ready (unless they just came out in the past few
- weeks). So, Aldus and Quark users beware. The paper handling extensions to
- the LaserWriter driver come with the Pagemarq and work very well. The only
- problem I have found is that the extension for QMS printers can not be
- used at the same time as the Pagemarq extension. Big trouble for LANs with
- both types of printers. Hmmm, perhaps it's possible to have two
- LaserWriter drivers installed and have the respective extensions not use
- the same one. Arrgh, using high-end printers should not be so fussy.
