-
- I'm wondering how much of the recent flame fests are just that...people
- who love to argue.
-
- I mean the simple facts (as I see them) are:
- - '486 machines are getting mighty cheap nowdays
- - if most of us *really* thought they were better we'd be posting
- in comp.sys.ibm.pc or comp.os.os2.misc
- - The Falcon is a nice computer with some neat things especially
- in the sound department (if you're a musician
- you're probably salivating....)
- - Just because it's good doen't mean a thing
- - The Falcon still has plenty of hardships against it:
- o Atari makes it and people pick on them
- o Atari makes it (and they market so well....)
- o Those '486 boxes get cheaper all the time
- o Apple is actually starting to sell computers at only
- slightly outragous prices (LCIII 4/80 1379 ?!?, got
- this off one of the mac bases so who knows)
- o Hey the price on that Falcon looks a little high too
- (Assuming a 4/65 is $1300, sure hope that's closer to
- $1100 than $1300)
- o Atari makes it (so important it's in here thrice!)
-
- Of course the main point is that Atari (and the Atari community) just can't
- put our heads in the sand and ignore PC and Macs ( *warning! cheap shot
- coming*)(But we can ignore the Amiga). I haven't seen some of the new crop
- of Atari software but I haven't heard of anything that quite competes with
- Excel or Word let alone Quicken and the host of CD-ROM stuff that abounds
- for the PC and the Mac.
-
- But, there also seems to be some neat stuff coming out for the Falcon
- Blackmail, a Genlocking Video Titling thingy, better MIDI software, and
- better paint programs. I wonder if anyone is doing ISDN on the DSP.
- (It's possible because it's done on the NeXT with *less* DSP memory).
- There's also the rumor of a Falcon 040 and a CD-ROM Falcon (which might
- be able to run CD-I stuff). But I guess we really should try to go
- vapor for vapor with the PC/Mac world. If you think Atari is the master of
- RSN you haven't *ever* listened to Microsoft (You know what NT stands for?
- Not Today, Not Tommorrow. Next Tuesday.....)
-
-
- Oh golly. How can one post so much mindless drivel in one night? Easy
- when you're stuck in a lab with *nothing* to do, you post drivel right?
